Liver transplant access: are alcoholic patients treated fairly?

NCT ID NCT01820819

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This completed study looked at 574 hospitalized adults with end-stage liver disease to see if alcoholic patients had the same chance of getting on the national liver transplant waiting list as non-alcoholic patients. The goal was to find out if non-medical reasons limit access for alcoholic patients. The study only observed and compared outcomes, without testing any new treatment.
