Scientists hunt for hidden parasite seeds in liver surgery samples

NCT ID NCT06316154

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether tiny parasite cells (germinal elements) are present in the liver tissue right next to or inside the fibrous wall of hydatid cysts in people with liver echinococcosis. Researchers will collect tissue samples from 100 patients during surgery to check for these cells and track if the disease comes back. The goal is to understand why the infection sometimes returns after surgery.
