Diabetes drug vs cholesterol meds: new battle for liver health

NCT ID NCT07180745

Summary

This study compares two types of medications—empagliflozin (a diabetes drug) and statins (cholesterol medications)—to see which works better for treating fatty liver disease. Researchers will enroll 400 adults who have fatty liver disease along with obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Participants will take different combinations of these medications for three months while doctors measure changes in liver fat and stiffness using specialized scans and blood tests.
