New pill aims to tame dangerous liver pressure
NCT ID NCT05161481
Summary
This study tested if a new oral medicine called Avenciguat could safely reduce high blood pressure in the main vein leading to the liver (portal hypertension) in adults with compensated cirrhosis. About 80 participants were randomly assigned to take one of two doses of the drug or a placebo (sugar pill) twice daily for 24 weeks. Doctors measured the pressure inside a liver vein using a thin tube at the start and during the study to see if the treatment worked.
