Can an allergy drug replace lidocaine for stitching cuts?
NCT ID NCT06910241
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether diphenhydramine (an allergy medicine) works as well as lidocaine for numbing simple cuts that need stitches. About 100 adults in the emergency room will receive one of the two medicines and rate their pain before and after the procedure. The goal is to see if diphenhydramine is a good alternative for people who cannot use lidocaine.
