Back surgery breakthrough? lidocaine may cut opioid need

NCT ID NCT07488832

First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving lidocaine through a vein during lumbar fusion surgery can lower the amount of strong painkillers (opioids) needed afterward and help patients recover faster. About 110 adults having elective back surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either lidocaine or a placebo during the operation. Researchers will measure pain, opioid use, side effects, and how quickly patients can get back on their feet.
