New shot could replace daily pill for advanced breast cancer
NCT ID NCT07340658
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 3 trial compares an injectable form of letrozole (given every 3 months) to the standard daily oral pill, both combined with ribociclib, in 300 postmenopausal women with advanced HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. The goal is to see if the injection works as well as the pill in delaying cancer growth. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the injection plus a dummy pill, or the real pill plus a dummy injection.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a more convenient treatment option for advanced breast cancer, potentially improving quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 3 trial, but it's not yet recruiting. The new injectable form may not be as effective or safe as the standard oral drug.
