Laser zaps annoying eye floaters in new trial
NCT ID NCT05800353
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tested whether a laser procedure (Nd:YAG vitreolysis) can safely reduce symptoms from bothersome eye floaters, specifically a type called Weiss ring. Seventy adults with floaters for at least one month were randomly assigned to get the laser treatment either right away or after a three-month delay. The study measured how much their symptoms improved and changes in vision-related quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Nd:YAG laser vitreolysis (laser procedure to break up eye floaters)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, non-surgical option to reduce bothersome eye floaters and improve vision-related quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial with 70 participants. The laser may not improve symptoms for everyone, and risks like eye inflammation or vision changes are possible.
