First seen Mar 03, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding laser therapy (photodynamic therapy and photobiomodulation) to standard gum disease treatment improves outcomes for people with advanced periodontitis. Twenty adults with severe gum disease received either laser treatment or a placebo alongside standard care. Researchers measured plaque, bleeding, pocket depth, and gum recession at the start and 3 months later to see if the laser helped control the disease.
