Laser light tested to soothe debilitating dialysis itch

NCT ID NCT06875115

Summary

This study tested whether laser acupuncture could reduce severe itching (uremic pruritus) in people receiving kidney dialysis. Sixty patients were randomly assigned to receive either real laser acupuncture or a fake (sham) treatment at specific points on their skin during their regular dialysis sessions, three times a week for four weeks. Researchers measured the severity of the itching before and after the treatment period to see if the laser made a difference.
