New 'Pacemaker' for the throat aims to free patients from breathing struggles

NCT ID NCT06007170

Summary

This study is testing a new medical device called the SPIRION Laryngeal Pacemaker. It is designed for people whose vocal cords are paralyzed and stuck closed, making it very hard to breathe. The device is implanted in the neck and uses gentle electrical pulses to open one vocal cord, aiming to improve airflow and reduce breathing problems. Researchers will follow 20 participants for two years to see if the device is safe and helps them breathe better.
