Heartburn pill could slow fatal lung scarring

Summary

This study is testing if a common heartburn medicine (lansoprazole) can slow down the progression of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a serious scarring lung disease. About 298 patients with IPF from across the UK will take either the real drug or a placebo (dummy pill) for a year, while tracking their breathing and cough at home. The goal is to see if this widely available drug can help control the disease and improve patients' quality of life.
