Can tape or stockings soothe pregnancy leg cramps?

NCT ID NCT07683494

First seen Jul 06, 2026 · Last updated Jul 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether kinesiotape (a stretchy tape applied to the skin) or compression stockings can reduce leg cramps and improve sleep quality in pregnant women. Sixty pregnant women in their second or third trimester who suffer from calf cramps will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: standard care (stretching, massage, and sleep positioning), kinesiotape applied twice a week for four weeks, or daily compression stockings for four weeks. The researchers will measure changes in cramp frequency, pain intensity, sleep quality, and quality of life.

Active substance
kinesiotape and compression stockings
What this could lead to
If effective, these simple, non-drug approaches could offer pregnant women a safe way to reduce painful leg cramps and improve sleep.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all pregnant women. The benefits may be modest or no better than standard advice.
