Common drugs tested to shield diabetic kidneys

NCT ID NCT07177898

Summary

This study tested whether adding a gout medication (allopurinol) to a standard blood pressure drug (lisinopril) could better protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes. 80 participants with normal uric acid levels were randomly assigned to receive either the two-drug combination or lisinopril alone for one year. Researchers monitored kidney health by checking for increases in a protein called albumin in the urine.
