Kidney disease drug trial aims to tame harmful mineral imbalance

Summary
This study tested whether a drug called sevelamer carbonate could help control certain mineral and hormone levels in people with moderate to severe chronic kidney disease who are not yet on dialysis. 98 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a placebo for 12 weeks. The main goal was to see if the drug could lower a specific hormone (FGF23) linked to bone and heart problems in kidney disease.
