Can a keto diet make liver surgery safer?

NCT ID NCT05884723

First seen May 22, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a 4-week low-carb (ketogenic) diet before liver surgery can reduce fat in the liver and lower the risk of complications like bleeding. About 124 adults with fatty liver and colorectal cancer that spread to the liver will be randomly assigned to either the diet or standard care. The goal is to see if the diet makes surgery safer and improves recovery.
