Could early ketamine keep kids with sickle cell out of the hospital?

NCT ID NCT07450430

Summary

This study aims to see if giving a single dose of ketamine within the first hour of a sickle cell pain crisis can help patients avoid being admitted to the hospital. It will also check if starting ketamine early during a hospital stay reduces the need for strong opioid painkillers and shortens the stay. Researchers are comparing the effects of ketamine to a placebo in 90 young people aged 6 to 24.
