Ketamine may keep kids with sickle cell out of the hospital
NCT ID NCT07450430
First seen Mar 06, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving ketamine early (within one hour of arriving at the hospital) can help children and young adults with sickle cell disease avoid being admitted for pain. Participants aged 6 to 24 will receive either ketamine or a placebo by mouth. If they are admitted, they can still receive standard IV ketamine later. The study will also check if starting ketamine early reduces the need for other pain medicines and shortens hospital stays.
