Cuddle therapy may shield preemie brains from bleeding

NCT ID NCT07473882

First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether kangaroo care (skin-to-skin holding) can prevent severe brain bleeding in extremely premature newborns. About 314 babies born at 28 weeks or earlier will be randomly placed in one of three groups: side-lying kangaroo care, face-down kangaroo care, or standard incubator care. Researchers will monitor brain bleeds using ultrasound to see which approach is safest.
