New drug tested for debilitating shingles pain

NCT ID NCT01106716

Summary

This study tested whether a single dose of an experimental drug called KAI-1678 could safely reduce severe nerve pain in people with postherpetic neuralgia, a painful condition that can follow shingles. It was a small, Phase 2 trial that compared the drug against a placebo and another pain medication. The main goal was to see if the drug could lower pain intensity six hours after it was given.
