Elbow fracture study: which wire placement works best for kids?
NCT ID NCT07266038
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two surgical methods for fixing a specific type of elbow fracture (Gartland type 3) in children aged 2 to 13. One method uses wires placed in a cross pattern, the other places wires from the side. The goal is to see which method better prevents the bone from slipping out of place after surgery. 90 children will be enrolled and followed to check for loss of reduction.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
K-wire fixation (cross or lateral)
What this could lead to
If one method proves better, it could guide surgeons to use the more effective technique, reducing the need for repeat surgeries in children with this elbow fracture.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to all children. Both methods are standard, so no major new breakthrough is expected.
