Double-Dose recovery boost? trial tests drug combo to ease pain after joint surgery

NCT ID NCT06653699

Summary

This study tested whether giving two doses of a common steroid (dexamethasone) along with a medication to reduce bleeding (tranexamic acid) helps people recover better from hip or knee replacement surgery. Researchers compared this two-dose approach to a single dose to see if it further reduced post-surgery pain, swelling, fatigue, and hospital stay while improving joint movement. The trial involved 92 patients over 45 years old who were scheduled for joint replacement due to severe arthritis.
