Mind over jaw? study probes personality link to chronic pain

NCT ID NCT07292064

Summary

This study aimed to understand how certain personality traits, unexplained physical symptoms, and feelings of social support are connected to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, which cause jaw pain and difficulty chewing. Researchers compared 90 adults with TMJ disorders to healthy individuals, having them fill out questionnaires about their jaw function, mood, personality, physical symptoms, and support networks. The goal was to gather knowledge about the psychological and social factors that might play a role in these painful conditions.
