New approach aims to cut Post-Surgery opioid dependence

NCT ID NCT07419815

Summary

This study is testing whether giving an intravenous lidocaine drip during and after a specific abdominal surgery (staging laparoscopy) can help control pain better. The goal is to see if this method reduces the need for strong opioid painkillers like morphine, which can cause side effects like nausea and breathing problems. Researchers are comparing the lidocaine drip to a placebo (saltwater) drip in 62 patients to measure differences in pain levels and total morphine used.
