Tiny trial tests better way to stick patients with tough veins

NCT ID NCT06719869

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether it's practical to run a larger trial comparing two types of longer-term IV catheters for hospitalized patients who have difficult venous access. Thirty patients were randomly assigned to receive either a midline catheter (placed in the arm) or a central venous catheter (placed in a larger chest or neck vein). The main goal was to see if the study procedures—like recruiting patients and collecting data—could work smoothly before launching a bigger study to see which catheter type is better.
