Could a licorice root extract boost standard ITP therapy?

NCT ID NCT05023915

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding diammonium glycyrrhizinate (a compound from licorice root) to high-dose dexamethasone works better than dexamethasone alone for adults newly diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), a condition where the immune system destroys platelets, causing bleeding. About 106 participants will receive either the combination or standard treatment, and researchers will measure platelet count improvements and bleeding control at 14 days and 6 months. The goal is to find a safer, more effective option for managing this chronic blood disorder.
