Nerve block may speed healing after shoulder surgery

NCT ID NCT05499897

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a nerve block (injecting numbing medicine around the shoulder nerves) helps wounds heal better after open shoulder surgery compared to general anesthesia alone. 34 adults having rotator cuff repair were randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block or general anesthesia. Researchers measured wound healing, pain, and immune system markers in the blood to see if the nerve block made a difference.
