Iron pill tested to boost recovery after colon cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT05177484

Summary

This study tested whether giving patients an oral iron supplement called ferric maltol after colon cancer surgery helps with anemia better than standard care. Anemia, or low red blood cells, is common after this surgery and can slow recovery. Researchers compared the iron supplement to usual care in 40 patients to see if it improved blood counts and recovery outcomes.
