Could hard breathing make lung scarring worse?

NCT ID NCT05310669

Summary

This study aims to understand if the extra effort needed to breathe in patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) might actually cause more damage to their scarred lungs. Researchers will measure breathing effort in 100 adults with IPF using a simple, non-invasive nose clip, both at rest and after light exercise. The goal is to see if patients who breathe with more effort experience faster lung function decline, which could lead to new ways to manage the disease.
