Hidden danger in ICU: common breathing tubes may scar throats

NCT ID NCT03250975

Summary

This study aims to understand how often patients develop throat injuries after having a breathing tube placed during intensive care. Researchers will examine 64 adult ICU patients who used breathing tubes for 1-7 days to check for injuries. They will also test whether two common medications (azithromycin and budesonide) can help patients who develop these injuries breathe better and prevent long-term problems.
