Bone needle could save lives when veins collapse in blood disease emergencies

NCT ID NCT07239375

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at using a needle placed into the bone marrow (intraosseous infusion) to give fluids and medicines quickly to critically ill patients with blood diseases. Researchers will enroll 52 adults aged 18-65 to see how often the first attempt works and how safe it is. The goal is to find a reliable backup when standard IV access is not possible.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that intraosseous infusion is a reliable emergency option for blood disease patients when standard IV access fails.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study with only 52 participants. It is not designed to prove the technique works better than standard care, and complications like infection or fat embolism are possible.
