No-Radiation tooth decay detector put to the test

NCT ID NCT07342595

First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study checks if a special dental scanner that uses near-infrared light can find early cavities as well as standard visual checks and X-rays. About 50 adults who already need a tooth pulled will have the scanner used on that tooth and nearby teeth for about 5 extra minutes. The results will be compared to regular exams and direct checks after the tooth is removed. No drugs or extra radiation are involved.
