New injection aims to restore hearing in sudden deafness
NCT ID NCT07540728
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether injecting steroids directly into the inner ear can improve hearing in people with sudden, severe hearing loss that hasn't responded to standard treatment. Researchers will compare this method to standard steroid injections behind the eardrum. The trial involves 108 participants and will measure hearing changes over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
triamcinolone acetonide and dexamethasone (steroids)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective treatment for sudden hearing loss that hasn't improved with standard therapy, potentially restoring some hearing.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 108 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The injection into the inner ear carries risks like infection or further hearing damage.
