HIV drug holidays: can pausing treatment keep patients healthy?
NCT ID NCT00820118
First seen May 17, 2026 ยท Last updated May 17, 2026
Summary
This study looked at whether people with HIV who have a strong immune system (CD4 count above 500) can safely take breaks from their medication. For two years, 45 participants cycled between six months on treatment and six months off. The goal was to see if their immune cells stayed stable and didn't drop too low. This approach aims to reduce the burden of daily pills, but HIV remains a condition that requires ongoing management.
