Researchers investigate hidden diabetes risk in hepatitis c kids

NCT ID NCT07238530

Summary

This completed study aimed to understand if children with hepatitis C infection—particularly those with thalassemia or who survived childhood cancer—are more likely to develop insulin resistance, a condition that can lead to diabetes. Researchers compared 90 infected children to healthy children of similar age and gender, checking their blood for markers of insulin resistance and hepatitis C levels. The goal was to gather knowledge about how hepatitis C might affect metabolism in vulnerable children, not to test a treatment.
