Breath-Hold breakthrough: new test could replace invasive breathing tubes

NCT ID NCT06344234

First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This observational study with 60 adults aims to see if a quick breath-hold during a breathing machine pause can accurately measure how hard a patient is working to breathe. Researchers will compare this simple test to the current standard, which uses a thin tube placed in the esophagus. If successful, this could lead to less invasive monitoring for patients needing breathing support.
