Summary
This study tested whether giving an inhaled antibiotic (amikacin) for three days could prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in ICU patients. 850 adults on breathing machines for at least 3 days received either the drug or a placebo. The goal was to see if the treatment reduced pneumonia cases by day 28.
