Daily inhaler tested to halt genetic lung disease progression

NCT ID NCT04204252

Summary

This study is testing whether inhaling a protein called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin (AAT) daily can slow down worsening lung function in people with a genetic condition called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. For the first two years, 220 participants will either receive the active inhaled treatment or a placebo (inactive substance) to compare results. The main goal is to see if this convenient inhaled treatment can protect the lungs better than no treatment, potentially offering a new way to manage this serious condition.
