Hidden infection may drive brain bleed recurrence – antibiotic trial launches

NCT ID NCT07556991

First seen May 10, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether a low-grade infection inside the brain's lining causes chronic subdural hematoma (a common brain bleed in older adults) to come back after surgery. Researchers will give antibiotics to some patients after their first surgery to see if it reduces the need for a second operation. About 164 adults who need surgery for this condition will take part.
