First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study looks at whether the recommended indoor temperature limit of 26°C is safe for older adults (ages 65-85) when they do light activities or wear extra clothing. Ten participants will be exposed to 26°C for 8 hours under different conditions, including light exercise and added clothing layers. Researchers will measure body temperature and heart strain to see if the current guideline needs to be adjusted.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could refine heat safety guidelines for older adults, helping prevent heat-related illness during hot weather.
What could go wrong
This is a very small study (10 people) and only simulates indoor conditions, so results may not apply to all older adults or real-world settings.
