Office fix for ear drum holes? new gel trial hopes to avoid surgery
NCT ID NCT06448039
First seen Dec 17, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tests if a gel containing a natural growth factor (FGF2) can close chronic holes in the eardrum better than a saltwater gel. Twenty adults with a dry eardrum hole that has lasted over 6 months will receive either the growth factor gel or a placebo. The goal is to see if the hole closes completely and hearing improves, all during a simple office visit.
