Summary

This study tests a telehealth program for people aged 65 and older who have survived a stay in the intensive care unit (ICU). The goal is to improve recovery and reduce preventable hospital readmissions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Multicomponent telehealth care coordination (recovery navigator, discharge summary, GP coordination, weekly calls)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a simple, scalable way to help older ICU survivors recover better at home and avoid unnecessary hospital stays.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small trial (300 people) testing a complex intervention, so results may not apply broadly. The program relies on patient engagement, which can be challenging after critical illness.
