Can a friend help fit a prosthetic leg? new study says maybe

NCT ID NCT05884203

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a helper (like a family member) can use a simple digital scanner to capture the shape of a veteran's leg for a new prosthetic socket. The goal is to see if this remote method works as well as the traditional in-person casting done by a prosthetist. About 25 veterans with below-knee amputations will take part, comparing comfort and fit between the two methods. If successful, this could reduce the number of clinic visits needed for rural veterans.
