New study: when to remove breathing tubes after spina bifida surgery in newborns

NCT ID NCT07465055

First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at 60 newborns who had surgery for spina bifida (a birth defect of the spine). Researchers want to see if removing the breathing tube in the operating room, instead of later in the intensive care unit, leads to better recovery. They will compare how long babies need a breathing machine, how long they stay in the NICU, and changes in blood tests.
