New immunotherapy combo shows promise for tough rectal cancers

Summary
This study tests whether two immunotherapy drugs, botensilimab and balstilimab, can shrink or eliminate locally advanced rectal tumors that are mismatch repair proficient (MMRp/MSS). About 40 adults with stage II or III rectal cancer will receive the drugs before standard chemotherapy and surgery. The goal is to see if this approach leads to a complete or partial response with manageable side effects.
