Pelvis fracture recovery: can patients walk right after surgery?
NCT ID NCT07189156
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether it's practical to run a larger trial comparing immediate weight bearing versus waiting 6-12 weeks after surgery for pelvis or acetabulum fractures. Researchers will enroll 200 adults from 7 medical centers and randomly assign them to either start walking right away or delay weight bearing. The main goal is to see if patients and surgeons are willing to participate, if patients follow instructions, and if follow-up is good.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Immediate or delayed weight bearing as tolerated
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show that a larger trial comparing immediate versus delayed weight bearing after pelvic surgery is possible, potentially leading to better recovery guidelines.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study, not designed to prove which approach is better. Results may not change practice directly, and patient compliance or surgeon willingness could be low.
