First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at whether using a tiny ultrasound probe inside the bile duct (IDUS) during a procedure to remove gallstones (ERCP) can help prevent stones from returning in people at high risk. 248 adults with large or multiple gallstones were randomly assigned to get IDUS or standard care. Researchers tracked stone recurrence, complications, and costs for 48 weeks to see if IDUS makes a difference.
