Zapping muscles to fight ICU wasting

NCT ID NCT07430969

Summary

This study is testing whether using electrical stimulation on the muscles of sedated, ventilated ICU patients can help prevent severe muscle loss, a common and debilitating problem. Researchers want to see if adding a concentrated dose of amino acids (protein building blocks) after the stimulation makes it even more effective. They will compare three groups: fake stimulation, real stimulation, and real stimulation plus the amino acid boost.
