Can a 10-Minute huddle make labor safer and more equitable?

NCT ID NCT06828406

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests TeamBirth, a program where labor and delivery teams hold short huddles with patients to make decisions together. Researchers want to see if this approach lowers the rate of first-time C-sections, especially for Black birthing people, and improves how patients feel about their care. About 2,200 people giving birth at several hospitals will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

TeamBirth (a behavioral training program for healthcare teams)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a simple team huddle program helps reduce unnecessary C-sections and makes labor care more respectful and equitable.

What could go wrong

This is a large implementation study, not a drug trial, so results may vary by hospital. The program may not work equally well for all groups or may be hard to sustain.
