New MRI technique spots cancer by its sugar hunger

NCT ID NCT05697406

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tests a new type of MRI that uses a special form of sugar (hyperpolarized 13C pyruvate) to see how cancer cells use energy. Cancer cells consume more sugar than normal cells, so this scan may help detect and monitor tumors. About 25 adults with known or suspected cancer will receive an injection and undergo MRI to see if the method works for different cancer types.
